Camp Cabins Logging / Mining / Retreat

Both logging and mining companies were a dangerous and a colorful enterprise. The railroads played an important part in the lives of the loggers and miners. Many types of camps were created, some of the older cabins were divided into 2 rooms. The kitchen/dining room would have log tables and benches, while the other room was the sleeping quarters lined with double tier bunks for up to 30 men. There were 17 logging railroads in the White Mountains region alone that would have had cabins for the railroad workers and loggers. From 1860's to 1900 New Hampshire forest thrived with the demand for lumber. As for the mining camps many turned into bustling towns with saloons and merchants.
