REPLACEMENT WHEEL SETS

We strongly recommend replacing inadequate or defective wheel sets often damaged in use or sometimes included in the kits or cars supplied by some manufacturers. We've experienced wheels that were out of round, out of gauge, and mounted on axles out of perpendicular plane. Replacing wheel sets is usually much less expensive than replacing complete truck assemblies.

We do not stock wheelsets that incorporate plastic wheels. All of our wheelsets have metal wheels. Plastic wheels are prone to dirt accumulation with resultant poor and uneven rolling, making cars wobble and skip. Plastic is also more prone to bad balance and breakage. In addition, metal wheels add weight at the lowest possible center of gravity for the car.

In our opinion, the top quality brands are Intermountain and Northwest Shortline. We stock both Northwest Shortline and Intermountain.
